We love lemon essential oil

It’s such a versatile oil to have on hand at home; from boosting your mood to cleaning and cooking - the humble lemon essential oil is an all-round superstar!

How Is Lemon Essential Oil Made?

Lemon essential oil is extracted via a ‘cold pressing’ process where fresh lemon peel is pricked and the oil is released from the peel. It takes around 75 lemons to make 15 ml. of lemon essential oil.

It’s packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, and antimicrobial properties and has a fresh, uplifting scent to boot. Here are 5 of our fave ways to use lemon essential oil, there are literally hundreds of uses though! It’s one of the most hardworking essential oils around.

1. Fresh, Sparkling Floors

A freshly mopped floor always makes the house feel brighter and tidier, doesn’t it?

No need to use a toxic store bought cleaners to get a good clean. This natural mixture includes lemon essential oil for its antimicrobial punch and clean, breezy scent.

Combine 5-10 drops of lemon essential oil, ¼ a cup of white vinegar and about 1 gallon of hot water in a bucket. Dip your mop in and get to work! Clean, streak-free, fresh-smelling floors await.

2. Natural Fruit And Veggie Wash

Washing your fruits and veggies properly before preparing and eating them will get rid of pesticide residue, debris, and dirt lurking around.

Mix yourself up a fruit and vegetable wash by combining 3/4 cup water, ¾ cup of vinegar and 3 drops of lemon essential oil

Pour the solution into a dark glass spray bottle for storage. Spray onto fresh produce, massage in then rinse with water.

3. Instant Mood Booster

Feeling grouchy or foggy-headed? Lemon essential oil to the rescue! The perfect energizing pick-me-up to lift your mood out of a funk.

Add a few drops to your essential oil diffuser and let the fresh, reinvigorating scent fill your room or workspace.

Or, you can dab a little of the oil on your wrists or behind your ears for an energy burst that will leave you focused, and prepared to tackle the day.

4. Clean Your Toothbrush

How often do you clean your toothbrush?

Like dirty makeup brushes, bacteria will make itself at home in your toothbrush if you don’t clean it often enough. No. Thank. You.

An easy, natural cleaning solution is combining a drop of lemon essential oil with 3 fl. oz. hydrogen peroxide in a glass.

Set your toothbrush upside down in the glass so the bristles are submerged in the solution. Leave for 8 hours, then rinse.

5. Soothe A Sore Throat

Lemon essential oil can knock a sore throat out quickly.

It provides pain relief while breaking up mucus and since it’s packed with vitamin C, it boosts your body's immunity to fight further infection.

Add a few drops to herbal tea or mix yourself up a lemon and saltwater gargle. Just stir a quarter to a half teaspoon of sea salt into a cup of warm water until dissolved, add a drop of lemon essential oil and stir again. Gargle for 30 seconds, then swish the solution around in your mouth and spit out.

  • I recently made a cleaning spray with half water, half vinegar, and about 10 drops of lemon EO. Spray on tough messes, let sit a few minutes, then wipe it off. I was so impressed with how well it cleaned AND it smelled fresh and delicious :-)
